York City Centre is both reasonably compact (you can walk across it in 15 minutes) & is close to the station. You will find featured breweries from around the country.
This guide is based on starting at the railway station and working roughly in a clockwise circle round the city.
York Station
York Tap – situated in the historic tea rooms this bar is the latest venture by the team behind Pivni (York) & the Euston & Sheffield Tap’s. With up to 20 hand pumps on an island bar it is a must see for any visitor to York. Recent beers have been seen from Thornbridge, Tempest, Kirkstall, Black Isle, Arbor, Harbour, Marble, Magic Rocks, Ilkley, Brodies, Fyne, Red Willow, Buxton, Fernandes, Great Heck.
Tanners Moat -
The Maltings - one of the York's longest established real ale pubs. With up to 6 beers from around the country the Maltings is often the first pub many visitors go to in their visit to the city. Food at Lunchtime (2pm mid-week, 4pm at weekends)

Minster Inn - seasonal beers often available from the Marston's stable.
Bootham -
White Horse - Thwaites Seasonal beers.

Trembling Madness – 2 rotating guest beers in upstairs bar also has an extensive bottle beer off-licence downstairs. Well worth a look in.
Olde Starre - beers off the SIBA list - guest beers recently seen from Reveloutions, Rudgate, Ossett, Double Maxim, Two Roses. Well worth a look in. CAMRA discount available to card carrying members.
Yorkshire Terrier - York brewery beers & Seasonals + guests -. CAMRA discount available to card carrying members.

Thomas’s – Two rotating pumps beers guests are often seen from the likes of Wentworth & Roosters –it’s also a regular stockist for Sarah Hughes Ruby Mild

Goodramgate -
White Swan & the Cross Keys - both feature beers from the Nicholson seasonal list. CAMRA discount available to card carrying members.
Vahe Bar (was previously called Ko Ko) - former off-licence now has two rotating guests from probably the City's smallest cellar - Recent brewers have included Yorkshire Heart, Fernandes, Roosters, Milestone, Marston Moor, Rudgate / Marston Moor.
Snickleways Inn – up to 4 guests – recent brewers have included Rudgate, Reveloutions, Rudgate, Hadrian & Border, Rooster. Well worth a look in.

Patrick's Pool -
Pivni - former travel & ticket agency now has 4 rotating guests - recently seen include Thornbridge, Habour, Arbor, Dark Star, Buxton, Magic Rocks, Hardknott, Brodies, Tyne Bank, Red Willow. Pivini is always worth a look & has an extensive bottle range too. Its sister pub is the York Tap in the former tea rooms on York Station.

Blue Bell - classic gem - well worth visiting for its interior. Guest Beers.

Lawrence Street -
Waggon & Horses - has an extensive range of guests - regulars include Great Heck, Brew Comp, Ossett, Fernandes, Raw + brewers from around the county. Always worth a look in. Opens at tea time Mon –Thurs – open all day from noon Friday - Sunday. Accommodation available.
Rook & Gaskill - Castle Rock & Wharfbank beers & seasonal’s + guests from around the country.

Heslington (University)
Deramore Arms – Home of the Four Thorns brewery which is brewed in a shed in the beer garden. Worth checking with the pub to see if one of their beers is available – tel: 01904 413433. Guest beers. As it is a little way out of the city centre it is worth catching either the Uni-Bus No. 44 or First No. 4 which runs from the Railway Station.
George Street
Phoenix - near to the Barbican it offers 4 guests - recently seen Yorkshire Heart, Rudgate / Marston Moor, Wold Top, Scarborough. Popular with Jazz fans. Opens at tea time mid-week.
Piccadilly -
Postern Gate - Large Wetherspoon's located under a Travelodge with up to 6 guests. Regular brewers include Acorn, Rooster, Daleside, Milestone, Wharfbank + guests from round the country. food available all day
Clementhorpe
Swan - busy pub with up to 5 guests. Brewers seen recently include Salamander, Rudgate / Marston Moor, Saltaire, Barney's Beer, Tryst, Yorkshire Dales to name a few. Always worth a look in. Has its annual beer fest with its nearby sister pub the Slip in September. Opens at tea time mid-week.
Slip Inn - free house with up to 5 guests. With regular beer fests & meet the brewer events the Slip is always worth a visit. Opens at tea time mid-week.
Cromwell Road, Bishophill
Golden Ball - various guests available with the likes of Salamander, York, Goose Eye, Great Newsome seen on a regular basis
Nunnery Lane
Old Ebor – always worth checking the board outside the pub as it serves an interesting range of guest ales. Well worth a visit.
Blossom Street

Micklegate
Brigantes Bar - part of the Market Town Taverns group it is the current York CAMRA pub of the year - with up to 10 guests available from around the country, Brigantes is always worth a visit. Regular brewers seen include York, Leeds, Wharfbank, Great Heck, Salamander,Rudgate / Marston Moor. Food available lunch times & evenings. 1/3’s now available.
St Martins Lane (off Micklegate)
Ackhorne – offers up to 5 guests & is well worth a look in. Recent brewers have included Wall, Abbeydale, Rooster, Hadrian & Border, Rudgate, Urban Brewhouse.
